I recently got a Twitter. I don’t get it. I get the followers and following, but I don’t get anything else, like the replies. Why don’t they show up? Please can someone give me a tutorial.

I’m a new user and the tutorial says my tweets go out to millions of twitter users but I don’t see any responses to my simple questions. What’s the problem? And the reverse how come I don’t see other people’s questions? The tutorial and other users say I don’t have to have followers or be a follower to ask and answer questions. I’M CONFUSED!!!
